'Form MCC ward committees'

June 09, 2012 09:58 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:36 am IST - MANGALORE:

Representatives of Namma Mane Namma Ooru, a city-based organisation, on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) office complex seeking formation of ward committees.

Addressing the representatives, advocate S.P. Chengappa, a member of the organisation, said ward committees were necessary to ensure that the corporation spent taxes paid by people in a proper way.

He said councillors had failed to ensure quality of work in the implementation of development projects.

Mr. Chengappa said the corporation used water pipeline of inferior quality which led to leakage of water supplied from Thumbe. The water pipeline burst thrice in the past one year and this had damaged the busy road near Bendoorwell Circle. People faced problems because of absence of pavements along the concrete roads.

Mr. Chengappa said the corporation council had been causing a delay in setting up ward committees.
