Foreign currency seized

Customs on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old resident of Manjeshwar for being in illegal possession of foreign currency valued ₹ 69.74 lakh, at the international airport.

According to Customs officials, following a tip-off they checked the baggage of Mohammed Askar, who was to leave here by the Air India Express flight to Dubai. They found him carrying currency of 10 countries, including U.S. Dollar, Russian Roubles, Euros and Pound Sterling. This was the highest among the seizure of foreign currency by Customs, the officials said. The officials said that the foreign currency was found in the checked-in baggage of Askar.

He was remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
