For a change, doctors don Yakshagana attire

Family members of doctors also take part in the event

Taking a break from attending to patients, some doctors staged a Yakshagana performance at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Hall at Attavar here on Sunday.

Some family members, women and children, of doctors also donned minor roles. The occasion was Doctors’ Day, observed by Mangaluru branch of the IMA.

In all, eight doctors, who are amateur artistes, with three professional Yakshagana background artistes staged Kamsa Vadhe episode.

President of Mangaluru branch of IMA G.K. Bhat Sankabittilu took on the role of the bhagawatha (singer) for some time. Later, it was Prapullachandra Nelyadi, a professional Yakshagana playback singer, who took over.

Other doctors who performed on the stage included M. Annayya Kulal (Akrura), Janardhana Aithal (Sri Krishna), Shekara Poojary (Balarama), J.N. Bhat (Raja Rajaka), Devdas Rai (Chanura), Sathish Kumar Bhandary (Musika) and Sathyamurthy Aithal (Kamsa).

Prior to the Yakshagana performance, there was a magic show by Vishak Rao and Vinitha Rao.

Eminent doctors were felicitated.
