The St. Aloysius Institutions and the St. Aloysius College Alumni Association will confer the Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award-2018 on five personalities, including Karnataka Bank chairman P. Jayarama Bhat and Diya Systems founder V. Ravichandran, on Sunday.
Institutions rector and patron of the association Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz told reporters on Friday that thousands of students have received education in the Aloysius institutions over the years. The institutions feels proud that its alumni have become successful in their respective careers while some have excelled becoming role models to others, he said.
The Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award was started in 2008 by the then principal and later rector Fr. Denzil Lobo. As many as 34 alumni have so far been conferred with the award. They include N. Vinay Hegde of Nitte Educational Institutions, former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde, Devi Prasad Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi of Yenepoya Educational Institutions, and banker K.V. Kamath.
While it is an annual feature since inception, the awards were presented once in two years since 2014 from which time the Alumni Association took the responsibility of organising the programme, Fr. Vaz said.
The selection is done by a panel of five juries from among alumni and staff members who have served at least two decades.
Besides Mr. Bhat and Mr. Ravichandran, others who are being conferred Aloysian awards 2018 are K.V. Rao, scientist and director of the Regional Science Centre, Pilikula, Joseph Gonsalves, chief traffic warden of Mangaluru city, and Jeevan Saldanha, a first-generation entrepreneur and innovator who founded Spectrum Industries.
The awards will be presented during the Aloysian Conclave 2018, to be held from 5.30 p.m. on Sunday. Mr. Bhat will also deliver the Aloysian Conclave address.
