Five new records made at Mangalore University meet

Five new meet records were made on the second day of three-day 33rd Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet at Mangala Stadium on Wednesday.

In the 10,000m race, Krishnappa B. of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara College, Ujire, created a record by covering it in 32:02:1 minutes by breaking the old record (32:36:8 seconds) of Denis Fernandes of Sacred Heart College, Madantyar.

Records created

In discus throw, Likhita K.V. of Alva’s College, Moodbidri, created a meet record (39.43m) by breaking the old record of (38.6m) Shrima Priyadarshini of Sri Gokarnanatheswara College, Mangalore, created in 2007-08.

Rani K.B. of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara College, Ujire, created a record in 5km walk by covering it in 27:30.6 minutes by breaking his own earlier record of 28:10.1 minutes in 2012-13.

Hurdles

In 110m hurdles, Sumanth M.K. of Alva’s College created a record (14.9 seconds) by breaking the old record of (15.0 seconds) set by K. Nissar of the same college in 2007-08, and Christ Beethoven of the same college in 2010-11.

Vinod Hoogar S. of SDM College, Ujire, set a record by covering 20 km walk in 01:39:29:8 minutes by surpassing the old record of 1:44:53:8 minutes of Kurian P. Mathew of the same college in 1983-84.

Government First Grade College, Haleyangadi, was hosting the three-day meet in which many colleges participated.
