Ullal police have arrested five persons in connection with the clash between two groups near Ullal’s Syed Madani Dargah on Friday.

Two persons were allegedly stabbed following a clash between people opposed to Juma (prayer offered on Friday) being held at the Mohiuddin Juma Masjid and the people coming to prayers at the Masjid. Two police sub-inspectors and two policemen were injured after they were pelted with stones while dispersing members of the two groups.

In custody

The police have arrested Imtiyaz, Akbar, and Irfan for allegedly stabbing Shamsuddin (40) and Sawad (26). The police have arrested Ikbal and Samad for allegedly throwing stones at policemen. All the five accused have been remanded to judicial custody.


Meanwhile, condition of Shamsuddin, who suffered an injury on his waist, continues to be critical and he was in the intensive care unit of a private hospital off the Falnir Road.

Sawad has undergone operation for the injury on his stomach in another private hospital in Thokkottu.

Vehicles stolen

A four-wheel drive, belonging to a pilgrim from Maddur town in Mandya, was stolen from Dharmasthala late on Friday night.

Yogish Gowda (42), who had come with his family on a pilgrimage, had parked his car (No.: KA03 MD7249) in front of the hotel he was staying in. Between 11.30 p.m. on Friday and 4 a.m. on Saturday, the car was stolen, said the Belthangady police, who placed the value of the car at Rs. 2 lakh.

Earlier, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, a motorcycle worth Rs. 38,000 (KA19 ED3294) was stolen from Thumbe Ramalkatte. According to the complaint lodged at the Bantwal Rural police station on Saturday, Kishore Kulal (33) had parked his bike with the keys in the ignition. After searching the area for two days, he lodged the complaint.
