A fishing boat ran aground and suffered damage at the bar-mouth near Bengre on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses said the boat started losing control near the bar mouth. All efforts to rescue it went in vain, said Thomas Roshan, an eyewitness. All the fishermen, including the operator, swam to safety. Bottom portion of the boat, owned by Rajesh Puthran, has suffered severe damage.

Fish, fishnets and other fishing equipment were unloaded from the boat, Mr. Roshan said. Fishermen from Bhatkal region had to cut short their fishing expedition in view of the rough weather, it was said.
