Fishery harbour case posted for arguments

January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - MANGALURU:

The case of violations of the Coastal Regulation Zone rules in the ongoing expansion of the fisheries harbour at Bunder has been posted for arguments on February 19.

New Delhi-based Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal, headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, on Wednesday posted the matter for arguments.

The Bench has allowed Respondent 18 in the case to file a Powerpoint presentation and said that the applicant may file any other documents.

The Bench had stayed the Rs. 57.6-crore expansion of the harbour at Bunder here, following an application by Mangalorean Octavia Albuquerque and others.

The Tribunal had found that the project was filling up a creek in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone rules.

An application was filed seeking permission for Yojaka India Pvt. Ltd., which is executing the expansion project, to remove debris or mud lying on the banks of the creek saying this was necessary to prevent any other damage.

Officials said that the project, halted since April, last year, would suffer further cost overrun due to legal issues.
