November 18, 2011 09:07 am | Updated July 31, 2016 06:44 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Coastal Security Police on Thursday freed the boats from Tamil Nadu which were seized on Wednesday for operating without necessary documents. The fishermen were found using documents of the boats registered with the Fisheries Department.

Eight boats were seized near Bunder by the police after being tipped off by the local fishermen. The fishermen had informed the police about some high speed boats operating in the deep sea near Surathkal on Tuesday and Wednesday. Coastal Security Police inspector Mukund Nayak on Thursday said they did not have any power to take action against Tamil Nadu fishermen for misusing documents of the boats registered with the Fisheries Department.

“We warned them and asked them not to repeat it in future,” Mr. Nayak said.
