Yashvantha Dongre, Registrar of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, said on Friday that financial inclusion was a catalyst for inclusive growth.
He was delivering the keynote address at the UGC sponsored State-level conference on “Financial Inclusion – Reaching the unreached” organised by Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty College at Shirva in Udupi district. Mr. Dongre said almost half the population of the country was unbanked. This situation could be turned around only by giving importance to financial inclusion. This could be realised and sustained only when community led initiatives facilitated this process.
“Helping the people to help themselves is what we need at present. Financial institutions need to appreciate the fact that the poor are bankable,” Mr. Dongre said.
Karnataka State Planning Board member G.V. Joshi inaugurated the conference. College correspondent K. Rajaram Shetty presided over the function. College principal Sudhakar Marla K., conference convener Vinobnath, and, Karunakar Nayak and Supreetha Shetty were present.
