File clearance drive off to a slow start uin Mangalore

September 21, 2014 09:31 am | Updated 09:31 am IST - Mangalore:

The special drive to clear pending files in government offices in Dakshina Kannada district got off to a slow start, with an estimated 10 per cent of files being cleared on Saturday.

The two-day drive, which follows instructions given by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aims at tackling nearly one lakh files pending with various government departments in the district, said Deputy commissioner A.B. Ibrahim. He, however, said that one-fourth of the pendency can be cleared by Sunday.

While the Zilla Panchayat office has cleared nearly 600 of the 1,800 pending files, the Mangalore City Corporation has disposed of 1,900 files. The Deputy Commissioner’s office has cleared 817 of the 4,900 pending files, officials said.

“The start was slow in Mangalore taluk due to other programmes and we believe that the drive will pick up on Sunday,” said Mr. Ibrahim.

A bulk of the disposed files will involve letters of correspondence or inter-departmental requests.

Though officers from every department are working through the weekend to clear the files, the Revenue Department will be under focus as it accounts for nearly one-fifths of the total files, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu.
