Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University T.C. Shivashankara Murthy said on Thursday that the university would withhold examination results of the degree colleges which did not send experienced teachers for evaluation of answer scripts.
At a meeting of the Academic Council of the university, he said that the university would send a circular in this regard to all colleges. This applied to government degree colleges as well. He said that according to the guidelines of the university, permanent teachers who had a minimum of three years' experience were eligible for evaluation of answer scripts. But colleges did not send all experienced permanent teachers for evaluation. He said that the colleges, while seeking affiliation of the university, mentioned about the number of teachers with them. The university would go through it and withhold the results of such colleges which did not send qualified experienced teachers for evaluation. Prof. Murthy said that when there was lack of teachers for evaluation, announcement of results was delayed. The intention of calling qualified experienced teachers for evaluation was to announce the results at the earliest.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the university would revise the syllabi of Bachelor of Business Management course as they had not been revised since four years. A workshop involving all stakeholders would be held for the purpose.
IT exemption
He said that the Union Ministry of Finance had issued a notification on September 14 providing exemption from paying income tax to those who donated funds for research in social sciences or statistical research in the university. The exemption was valid from the assessment year 2011-12 and onwards. The government had released Rs. 72.50 lakh for welfare activities of SC/ ST students as a special grant to the university, he said.
