Udupi Zilla Panchayat President K. Shankara Poojary on Wednesday urged the Government to strengthen the Panchayat Raj institutions.
Inaugurating the National Panchayat Raj Day celebrations organised at the District Offices Complex here, Mr. Poojary said it was incumbent upon the elected representatives and bureaucracy to work in close coordination with each other so that people retained their faith in the Panchayat Raj institutions.
It was necessary to implement programmes which would help in the welfare of the weaker sections of the society.
All-round development of villages should be given priorityhe said.
Delivering the keynote address, advocate and panchayat raj expert T. Balachandra Shetty said that the Panchayat Raj institutions had contributed immensely for the development of the country.
Resource person Janardhan Maravanthe and president of Sanoor Gram Panchayat Narasimha Kamath delivered lectures on the occasion. Chief Planning Officer Vijaykumar Shetty welcomed the gathering.
Chief Executive Officer of Udupi Zilla Panchayat S.A. Prabhakar Sharma spoke. Chairman of Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee on Education K. Babu Shetty presided over the function.
