Government department officers should strive for the betterment of the less fortunate in society and ensure the speedy settlement of compensation to victims of accidents and other natural calamities, High Court Judge L .Narayanswamy has said.

Speaking after inaugurating a legal awareness programme, organised by the State and District Legal Services Authority, and distributing compensation cheques to the families of accident victims here on Saturday, he said that there is solution to every problem that people suffer. With regard to legal issues, people should consult experts and the district-level services authority to find solutions.

“Every day hundreds of people die in accidents in the country and the families depending on them are in pathetic condition,” he said.

Keeping in view the poor condition of the family of accident victims, the public should join hands to help them get suitable compensation.

Recently, the District Principal and Sessions Judge S.B. Vastramath took up suo moto mediation with the Lok Adalat for providing compensation to 14 persons who died in accidents in Rampur of Molkalmuru taluk in Chitradurga district and helped them to get compensation of ₹1.43 crore.

Such move would be crucial in ensuring financial security to poor families, he added.
