He was found guilty of murder

Fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge M. Ramachandra on Wednesday sentenced to life a 32-year-old engineering graduate on finding him guilty of murdering his elder brother at an apartment flat in Bannoor village near Puttur two years ago.

Somnath was accused of stabbing his brother Ranganath following a heated argument after dinner around midnight of May 17, 2015. Following the incident, Somnath reportedly went to his neighbour Rafiq and then to flat owner Isaq and confided in them.

Puttur Circle Inspector Mahesh Prasad investigated the case and filed charge sheet.

Public Prosecutor M. Udaya Kumar examined 19 witnesses, including Rafiq and Isaq, who deposed in favour of the prosecution’s case. Judge Ramachandra sentenced Somnath to life for murder and imposed a fine of ₹ 10,000 on him. Somnath was sentenced to undergo seven years of imprisonment and pay a fine of ₹ 5,000 for causing disappearance of evidence.
