Eight accused of assault

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - MANGALURU:

A 22-year-old was the victim of an alleged assault near Juice Junction in Balmatta on Friday.

A day earlier, a person had allegedly ridiculed Muzammil, a resident of Yellurpadavu, in a city bus for reportedly wearing perfume. While alighting from the bus, Muzammil reportedly stared at the person who made the comment. On Friday, Muzammil boarded a bus near Ambedkar Circle.

“As the bus neared Balmatta, the person, who had criticised me on Thursday, was there in the bus and he put his hand across my face. I asked him to remove the hand.”

Then that person reportedly slapped Muzammil. “When I questioned him, seven others joined and assaulted me.”

Muzammil has accused Madhu, Sachin and six others of assault.

Man held

The Vitla police have arrested Abdul Rahiman (32), who had reportedly gone abroad after taking bail in three rioting cases.

The police said that Abdul Rahiman was arrested in 2010 and after getting bail, he was accused in two more rioting cases.

Following a tip-off, the police arrested Abdul Rahiman when he had come to Vitla and produced him before the local magistrate, who ordered the seizure of his passport.
