M.B. Rajesh, president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India and Palakkad MP, will lead a delegation to Manipal on Friday to discuss with police the investigation into the sexual assault of a medical student.

The delegation will include other MPs from Kerala and DYFI Kerala State Committee president T.V. Rajesh, said DYFI Dakshina Kannada Unit Secretary Muneer Katipalla in a press release.

Mr. Katipalla said following the arrest of the accused in the case, the DYFI had cancelled the IGP Office march scheduled on Friday. Meanwhile the Bajrang Dal has called off bandh planned on Friday.

Kasaragod MP’s visit

Our Udupi Special Correspondent reports: Kasaragod MP P. Karunakaran visited the Kasturba Hospital here on Thursday and enquired with the hospital authorities about the health of the sex assault victim, who hails from Kerala.

Balakrishna Shetty, leader of Udupi district unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) told The Hindu that Mr. Karunakaran met the Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital P. Dayananda and enquired about the health of the student. Dr. Dayananda informed that the medical student did not want to meet anyone and her privacy should be respected. Hence Mr. Karunakaran did not meet her.

Mr. Karunakaran later met the IGP(Western Range) Pratap Reddy and told him that a lot of students from Kerala were studying in Manipal.
