District Vector Borne Control Officer Arun Kumar B.S. has expressed concern over the non-adherence of many doctors in district to standard norms laid down for treatment of malaria.
Speaking at a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Recent guidelines in treatment of Malaria” here on Saturday, Dr. Kumar said verification of treatment given to 10 per cent of malaria-affected patients had shown that many doctors were not following guidelines of Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).
“I have seen doctors using Artemisinin injection, which is against the guidelines.” Dr. Kumar said there had been no deaths because of malaria in the last two years.
K. Nitayananda Chowta, associate professor at KMC Hospital's Department of Medicine, said that effective treatment should be given for all fevers diagnosed as malaria by rapid diagnostic test or microscopy. District Health Officer O. Srirangappa inaugurated the programme.
