The police registered a case against a medical officer, a dentist and a lab technician on the charge of humiliating a woman contract worker belonging to Scheduled Tribe at the Community Health Centre at Shirva in Udupi district.

The Shirva police said that Baby, a Group D staff at the CHC, had lodged a complaint accusing the medical officer Vasudeva Rao of making her wash utensils at his house on holidays and asking her to clean toilets at the CHC. Dentist Santosh Kumar has been accused of humiliating her by calling her a sweeper.

Ms. Baby, in her complaint, also accused lab technician Mamatha Shetty of casting aspersions on her character.

When Ms. Baby along with activists of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) confronted Dr. Kumar on the issue on Thursday, she said, Dr. Kumar abused and threatened them.

A case had been registered at the Shirva police station.

Counter complaint

Dr. Rao has also lodged a complaint accusing Ms. Baby and about 15 activists of the DSS preventing them from performing their duty. The police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code.
