Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj alleged here on Friday that the Congress has failed to project its chief ministerial candidate in the State.
Addressing presspersons, the BJP leader alleged that there was a “big ruckus” in the Congress in the State over the leadership issue while the BJP had projected Jagadish Shettar as its chief ministerial candidate.
Ms. Swaraj said that after the BJP was elected to power in the State in the last Assembly election quarrels among the party leaders in the State had pained her and the national leadership. She claimed that notwithstanding it, the BJP gave good governance in the State. “It performed well in the welfare of Kannadigas,” she said.
She said that the scene in the State unit had changed now and the leadership issue had been solved amicably. “The BJP is united and the Congress is divided over the leadership issue now.”
The Leader of the Opposition said that the BJP had made Prahlad Joshi, who, she said, has clean image as the president of the State unit.
Ms. Swaraj claimed that there was anti-incumbency factor against the Congress at the Centre, which she alleged was hit by many scams. Rise in prices of essential commodities had hit the common man.
‘No role for KJP’
Referring to the KJP, she said that neither it could damage the chances of the BJP nor it could perform any role in the making of the next government. She said that the Janata Dal (Secular) had limited influence in the State and hence the fight was between the BJP and the Congress.
The BJP leader said that the party would go to the polls with its united face and development work implemented by its chief ministers.
To a question, Ms. Swaraj said that she did not have any financial dealings with Reddy brothers of Bellary, and she was visiting the mining town to attend the Varamahalakshmi vruta at a doctor’s house.
