Even 20 years after the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992, a milestone in the violent communal history of the country, successive Union government, including those governed by the Congress, have shown “no will” to reconstruct the masjid, Popular Front of India (PFI) said here on Thursday.
Proclaiming that “Babri Masjid will not be forgotten,” Abdul Razak Kemmara, PFI State committee member, told presspersons that the government had not taken action against those named by the Liberhan Commission of Inquiry as responsible for the demolition of the masjid. “These men have been roaming around free and have been perpetrating more communal violence,” he alleged.
The organisation criticised the verdict of the Allahabad High Court which favoured dividing the land into three parts. It termed the decision “unconstitutional”.
Similarly, Indian Union Muslim League said that status quo should be maintained with a ban on construction at the disputed site till the Supreme Court passed its verdict. It demanded that “stern action be taken against fascist forces” which demolished the mosque.
