February 01, 2013 12:34 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:11 pm IST - Mangalore:

Activists have welcomed the decision of the State government to withdraw charges levelled against Kasturi Newz 24 reporter Naveen Soorinje in connection with the July 28 home stay attack case.

K. Phaniraj from the Karnataka Koumu Souharda Vedike said the State government had belatedly corrected the wrong action of the police. Similar action should be taken against Sharan, the other journalist mentioned in the chargesheet filed by the police. District Secretary of Democratic Youth Federation of India Muneer Katipalla said the decision of the government was an acknowledgement of fearless journalism.

Credit should go to the pressure sustained by writers, activists and intellectuals , he said. Social Activist Vidya Dinker said this decision should have been taken much earlier.
