March 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - MANGALURU:

The order of the Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim that a tollgate should not be constructed on the national highway near National Institute of Technology-Karnataka has been welcomed by the Nagarika Samiti, Surathkal.

President Subhashchandra Shetty told presspersons that the order had helped the people, who were worried that they would be forced to pay toll though the highway was not completed.

The samiti’s information was that about 35 per cent of the work was still pending.

Mr. Shetty said that a case against setting up a tollgate at Surathkal was pending and the association was also trying to ensure that a notification is issued withdrawing the toll gate at the place.

Area Councillor Revathi Puthran was present.
