Members of the Dalita Damanitara Swabhimani Horata Samiti said that Sub-Inspector Srikala, who has been placed under suspension for reported abuse of power, should not be posted in the district.

Talking to presspersons here on Monday, samiti member Raghuveer Sooterpet said that Ms. Srikala and constable Rajesh were placed under suspension on April 11 for reportedly assaulting Rukmayya, a Dalit, after searching the latter’s shop for alleged violation of COTPA Act.

Mr. Sooterpet said that there were reports that Ms. Srikala would come back to duty shortly. Mr. Sooterpet said they do not want a police officer, who has reportedly abused a Dalit, back in the city. He accused Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader of backing Ms. Srikala.

Another activist Ashok Konchady said there were complaints of cheating and harassment against Ms. Srikala. If she reports back to duty in the city, the samiti will intensify its protest demanding action to move the officer out of the district, he said.
