Dakshina Kannada pips Udupi to top in PU performance

Registers 86.04 pass percentage; city student tops State

By registering a marginal 0.16 rise in pass percentage over its last year’s showing, Dakshina Kannada has topped the list of districts in second year Pre University examination results. Udupi, last year’s topper, has receded to the second place.

The pass percentage of Dakshina Kannada was at 86.04 while that of Udupi was 85.57. Dakshina Kannada stood second with pass percentage of 85.88 last year when Udupi stood first. “For the last few years, the two districts have been the top two performing districts in the 2 PU examinations,” said Deputy Director of Pre University Education K.R. Thimmaiah.

Better prepared

Jagajivandas Bhandary, president of the Dakshina Kannada Pre University Principals’ Association, said students from 178 colleges in the district were better prepared for the second year PU examinations this year, which was the first one to be based on the National Core Curriculum – on par with the CBSE syllabus. “Apart from the State-wide orientation sessions, we had given special training sessions for lecturers in science and commerce streams,” Mr. Bhandary said. Like last year most of the 53 government PU colleges will have 100 per cent pass percentage, he added.

Moreover, with as much as 30 per cent marks for practical, there was increase in the number of students passing in the science stream not only in the district but also in the State, Mr. Bhandary said.

Performance

Students of many of the colleges in the district have performed well in the examinations. As many as 29 students from Science and Commerce streams from Canara PU College, Kodialbail have scored more than 575 marks. Apart from the State topper Venkatesh Kamath, Pooja Baliga (593 marks), Apoorva (591), Chandrika (589), Manola V (587), Halima (585) and Chaitra Sapalya (585) are among those who have excelled.

Pallavi Rao K. from Govindadasa College scored 593 marks in the Science stream. Abhya Bhat and Adhiti with 591 and 589 marks are toppers among the students from Science and Commerce streams of St. Aloysius PU College. Sridevi Bhat (590), Dhanashri Deshpande (588) and Ankita Hudedagaddi (586) are among the top 711 students who have passed from Expert PU College.

Puttur

Hasta Ithal (590) and Varsha V. Kamat (582) are the top two of the students who have passed out from the St. Philomena PU College in Puttur. Sharanya B.K. (588), Sudhindra Rao (587), Shreeramya (586) and Sharmila S (586) are among those who scored the highest in Science stream from Vivekananda PU College, Puttur. Kruthika B.H. and Vaishali Prabhu (584 marks each), and Vasundara Lakshmi (551) topped among the students of Commerce and Arts streams respectively, passing out from Vivekananda PU College, Puttur.

Prathiksha Kudwa (583), Anusha Shenoy (583) and Aksha Eliza Johnson (541) excelled among students from the Science, Commerce and Arts streams, passing out from SDM PU College, Ujire. Anil Kumar Biradar of Vikas College scored 580 marks while his college-mate Rohan S. K. scored 582 marks.
