Daily-wage labourer falls; dies

A 26-year-old daily-wage labourer died after, allegedly accidentally, slipping into a lake at Balapa village near Kukke Subramanya on Friday morning. Around 6.30 a.m., Umesh, was walking to the temple, when he slipped into the lake, said Subramanya police. The lake is used for irrigation and is reported to be deep.

Succumbs to poison

A 70-year-old died early on Friday after having consumed poison in an alleged suicide attempt a few days ago at his house in Tenkekarandu, Belthangady taluk. On January 19, David Vegas allegedly consumed poison and was admitted to Wenlock hospital, said Venoor police. Mr. Vegas had apparently been struggling with alcoholism for more than two decades, and was grappling with depression.

Booked for showing porn

A 22-year-old man was booked for showing pornographic videos to a six-year-old boy in Surathkal on Friday evening. Surathkal police said the boy told his family after Krishna showed him the film on his mobile phone.
