Cyclists participating in ‘Pedalling for Voting’ to create awareness on voting in Mangaluru on Sunday. The cycle rally was organised by the Dakshina Kannada SVEEP Committee and the Mangaluru City Corporation.

About 150 riders, majority of them belonging to Mangalore Cycling Club (MACC) and Mangalore Bicycle Club (MBC), on Sunday participated in a mission — to create awareness among the general public to cast their vote — in the city.

Flagging off a bicycle rally, District SVEEP Committee head and Zilla Panchayat CEO M.R. Ravi said that the rally passed through core Mangaluru region, where the voting percentage had been 65 in the last Assembly elections.

People need to be sensitised to come out of their houses and cast their votes, Mr. Ravi said.

SVEEP ambassador and actor Naveen D. Padil said that people need to be aware of their rights and campaigns like the bicycle rally would help in the matter.

Club members, general public and a few school students then pedalled their way through the central parts of the city.

The rally passed through Hampanakatte, Karnad Sadashiva Rao Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Mannagudde and Lady Hill before culminating at the Karavali Exhibition Grounds.

The SVEEP Committee had arranged a demonstration of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) to show the accuracy in the functioning of electronic voting machines.
