A city sessions court on Tuesday convicted Mohan Kumar. K, a 50-year-old former teacher, for the murder of a woman by administering cyanide. She was one of the 20 women allegedly murdered by Mohan Kumar popular known as “Cyanide” Mohan.
According to the prosecution, the victim Anita, a resident of Barimaru village in Bantwal, was lured by Mohan Kumar with a promise of job and made her stay with him in a lodge in Hassan on June 17, 2009. Mohan Kumar then asked her to consume cyanide stating that it was a pill to prevent pregnancy.
Anita was found dead in the toilet in Hassan bus stand on June 18, 2009. He is said to have gone away with gold ornaments kept by Anita in the lodge room.
The Bantwal police arrested Mohan Kumar on October 21, 2009.
The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge B.K. Naik found the substance in the circumstantial evidence gathered by the prosecution. The Judge has convicted Mohan Kumar for murder, rape, administration of stupefying drug, robbery, causing disappearance of evidence, concealing or keeping in confinement a kidnapped person, voluntarily causing hurt, cheating, forgery and possession and use of counterfeit seals.
This case has further led to expose the murder of 19 other women allegedly murdered by Mohan Kumar between 2005 and 2010. Apart from women from Dakshina Kannada, there were six other women from Kasargod in Kerala who were his victims.
