Custody of five in Manipal gang-rape case extended

The court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate on Monday extended the judicial custody till August 26 of five persons arrested in connection with the Manipal gangrape case.

Bannanje Raju Poojary, Senior Assistant Public Prosecutor, said the police sought extension of the custody of the three suspects in the gangrape case – Yogesh, Ananda and Hariprasad — and two persons who tried to destroy evidence in the case — Balachandra and Harindra.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate P.S. Chandrashekhar passed orders extending their judicial custody till August 26, he said.

Police said that Yogesh, Ananda and Hariprasad would be shifted to a jail in Shimoga for security reasons. Balachandra and Harindra would be lodged in the district sub-jail at Anjar village, about 15 km from here.
