Workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxists) staged a protest in front of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Friday alleging that the ruling Congress in the corporation council has not been able to provide good administration.

Addressing a gathering, Sunil Kumar Bajal, secretary, city unit of the party, said that the Town Hall had been closed for repairs for the past seven months. It had affected many cultural organisations and performers as they do not have another venue to perform.

He alleged that the development works in the city had come to a standstill. He demanded that the Congress councillors resign.

Dayananda Shetty, the party councillor, said that the corporation was collecting solid waste management cess from 2015-16 in an unscientific manner as it was based on built-up area of a building. It should be dropped. He urged that the ward development fund of the councillors that has not been released since a year be released.
