The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should take up the inquiry into the case of the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Ujire, said CPI(M) Dakshina Kannada District Secretary B. Madhava. He said the police was now insisting that one particular person had been accused of the crime. He said, “The culprit is definitely not a single person.”
Mr. Madhav said “some force” was slowing down the investigation . When asked which “force” he thought it was, he said, “That is for the police to tell.”
CPI (M) Dakshina Kannada District Secretariat Member K.R. Sriyan said there is “a systematic attempt to close the case” but the aim should be to get justice for the victim.
Heggade ‘role model’
The Yakshagana Kalaranga condemned the ‘baseless’ allegations against the Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade and his family members on the Ujire rape-and-murder case.
President of Kalaranga T. Shivaram Shetty and Secretary Murali Kadekar said the charges made against Mr. Heggade were of the cheapest kind. Mr. Heggade was considered a role model for his social services.
Managing Trustee of Prasanna Ganapati Temple Bellipadi Hariprasad Rai said systematic efforts were being made to defame Mr. Heggade and his family. There should be an impartial probe into the rape and murder of the girl in Ujire last year, he said.
Pejawar’s backing
Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math on Wednesday said he was deeply saddened by the defamatory charges against D. Veerendra Heggade and his family members.
The seer said there should be a thorough probe into the death of the girl. Mr. Heggade had also clarified that his nephew was not involved in the case and was outside the country when the incident took place.
