A local sessions court on Saturday granted bail to Ahmed Khureshi, an accused in an attempt to murder case.

Soon after his arrest, Popular Front of India activists attempted to lay siege to the office of the Police Commissioner on April 4 alleging police harassment of Khureshi.

This led to stone throwing by activists and police resorting to lathicharge.

The State government ordered an inquiry by the Criminal Investigation Department into alleged police harassment.

Khureshi has been undergoing treatment for a kidney aliment at the Government Wenlock Hospital.

The 6th Additional District and Sessions Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy on Saturday granted bail to Khureshi.

He was directed to execute a personal bond of ₹1 lakh with solvent surety and was directed to appear before the Surathkal police station thrice in a month for three months or till the filing of the chargesheet.

The judge asked him to surrender his passport and directed him not to threaten any witnesses. If he violates any of the conditions the bail will be automatically cancelled, the judge noted.
