“The mission for a better global society is well within human reach provided we can produce the right leaders of tomorrow, develop a global outlook, combine ethics with economics and target a growth that is sustainable and inclusive,” said chairman and managing director of Indian Overseas Bank Narendra M. here on Wednesday.

He was inaugurating the two-day Second Nitte International Conference on “Redefining the roles of business, NGOs and Government: A mission for a better global society” organised by Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management (JKSHIM), here.

Mr. Narendra said that in a market-driven world, the role of businesses in building a better future society was much larger than that of the Government. It might be farfetched to expect businesses to embrace concepts such as trusteeship enunciated by Mahatma Gandhi. However, businesses could not shirk their responsibility towards the betterment of society.

“Businessmen must learn to operate within socially desirable parameters of fair practices, business ethics, good governance, corporate social responsibility and philanthropy,” he said.
