‘Corporate companies not promoting yoga’

Corporate companies seeking business in health sector do not encourage promotion of yoga, according to K. Krishna Sharma, chairman, Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Sciences, Mangalore University.

Speaking at a workshop on ‘Yoga therapy for stress disorders’ at the university on Friday said that the practice of yoga directly helps people in maintaining good health. Corporate companies do not promotion the practice fearing a fall in their business in health sector.

Vijayakumar Gogi, director, State Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidda and Homeopathy (AYUSH), said that 21 countries agreeing that June 21 would be the International Day for Yoga showed that yoga had been well received in the world.

He said that urbanisation had increased stress and industrialisation had added to pollution. Practice of yoga served as “preventive and rehabilitative therapy”, he said.
