The district has so far received an average of 1967.1mm rainfall, which is just around 17 per cent lesser than the ‘normal’ rainfall of 2393.2 mm, calculated from January till 8 a.m. on Thursday. In perspective, just two weeks ago, the deficit was nearly 35 per cent. The heavy rains recorded through Thursday helped bridge the gap. Belthangady received the highest rainfall in the district at 148.8m, followed by Puttur (135 mm), Mangalore (120.3 mm), Bantwal (118.6mm) and Sullia (112.4mm), said the district administration. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said Kukke Subramanya and Dharmsthala received nearly 190mm of rain.

The district has recorded nearly 1,231mm of rainfall through July, which is marginally more than the ‘normal’ of 1,217mm.

IMD predicts moderate to heavy rainfall at most places till August 4.
