Residents of Jeppu area here have been waiting for more than a year for the construction of a library building to be completed in Nandigudda.
Denis Fernandes, a resident, said the construction was to have been completed by December last.
The foundation stone for the building was laid in February last year.
Chief Librarian of Mangalore Divakar told The Hindu on Sunday that the staff in his department were busy in attending election duties and that things would speed up once the gram panchayat elections are over.
Sub-contractor Prakash Kamath said that he had completed the work according to the city corporation's plan. “We are waiting for the electrical wiring to be done. After that, it will take us about a week to complete the works such as painting, fitting window frames and so on,” he said.
Junior Engineer of the civic body Santhosh said that he was told by Mescom officials that the application for electricity connection had to come from the Chief Librarian.
Mr. Divakar said that he had taken up the matter, but could not give details as the records were in his office.
Mr. Fernandes complained that the toilet was not connected to the underground drainage system; instead, a cess pit had been dug up for the drainage.
Mr. Santhosh said that it was not possible to connect the library toilet to the UGD as the building was at a lower level than the pipeline.
