District in-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar on Sunday urged prominent builders to construct houses for the poor.
Addressing a gathering after launching the construction of a new building project, Mr. Palemar said that several families in the State lacked shelter, and there was a need for low-budget housing for the poor. Prominent builders should take the initiative to launch such housing projects, he said. The Minister said that builders could visualise this as a not-for-profit venture. “You can build at least 100 such houses in a year for the poor,'' Mr. Palemar, a builder himself, said adding that such projects need not always be in the public sector.
Mr. Palemar also stressed the need for environment-friendly apartments and houses and advised builders not to destroy greenery while building apartments, commercial establishments and houses.
