The district unit of the Congress staged a ‘rasta roko' here on Friday demanding that the B.S. Yeddyurappa government order a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining in the State.

Members of the Congress blocked traffic in the Hampankatta area here and were arrested by the police and released later. Speaking during the rasta roko, Congress leader Ivan D'Souza said that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government was protecting those involved in illegal mining.

He said that only a CBI probe would reveal the truth about the nature of mining and bring the guilty to book.

Congress leaders said that Mr. Yeddyurappa was casting baseless allegations on Congress leaders, while the corruption in administration had hit an unprecedented level.

They demanded that the Chief Minister should resign if he could not drop the Ministers involved in illegal mining from the Cabinet.
