The Congress manifesto for the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) elections, released here on Saturday, promises not to increase property tax, building licence fee, and underground drainage and water connection charges for the next three years.
It promises to create a ‘Greater Udupi’ by merging nearby villages — Alevoor, Ambalpady, Kidiyoor, Kadekar, Udyavara, Tenkanidiyor, Badanidiyor and Yembathu Badagabettu — with the city.
The party, according to the manifesto, would pressure the State government to convert the District Government Hospital into a modern hospital at a cost of Rs. 500 crore. It would make efforts to start a monorail (single pillar) from Kinnimulky to Manipal.
In order to provide security to women CCTV cameras would be installed at all important centres across the city. The traffic system would also be improved to provide security to women, in addition to introducing night beats by police and round-the-clock helpline.
A yoga and physiotherapy centre would be established at Ajjarkad. Three public toilets will be constructed in every municipal ward. Toilets would be constructed in the houses belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes at a cost of Rs. 20,000 each. A sum of Rs. 75,000 would be provided to repair the houses belonging to the weaker sections, stated the manifesto.
The Congress also promised to launch an interactive portal to quickly provide civic services to the people.
The State government would be urged to appoint more staff for Udupi CMC. Mass contact programmes would be held in every municipal ward once in three months. Residential complexes would be built for the staff and civic workers of the CMC, the manifesto said.
The manifesto promises to take up Varahi Drinking Water Project to provide drinking water to the city.
