Congress opposes demolition of houses in Kasba Bengre

August 11, 2011 02:18 pm | Updated 02:18 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Congress has opposed the revenue authorities move to demolish six houses in Kasba Bengre on August 6.

Condemning the action, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Ivan D' Souza said the revenue authorities had taken a severe action at a place where many of residents did not have title deeds. But the authorities had taken action against only six families. “If you are implementing a law, then it should be applied to all,” he said.

In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner N.S. Chennappa Gowda on Wednesday, Mr. D'Souza said action of the revenue authorities had denied shelter for the six families. The government should take action to rebuild the six houses at its cost. He had asked the district authorities to conduct a proper survey of the area and distribute title deeds to all .
