A complaint has been filed against the local Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for creating fear among people by displaying swords during a procession at Bajpe held on October 11.
In a complaint, H. Abdul from Bajpe said four persons carrying swords were found around a person carrying a flag in a march between Bajpe and Sinnipadavu. This public display of swords had caused fear in him and it might be a cause for communal disturbance. Bajpe police have registered Mr. Abdul’s complaint.
Driver killed
A 25-year-old bus driver, who was on his way to work, was killed near Thomas Katte within Mulki police station limits on Monday. The police said Ganesh, a resident of Guttukadu, left on his motorcycle to board his bus that was parked in Yelinje.
Near Thomas Katte a bus hit the motorcycle and he fell from it. He was taken to a private hospital and then shifted to the Government Wenlock Hospital, where he succumbed to injury.
Missing
An 80-year-old woman has been reported to be missing from her house in Valanja village within Venoor police station limits. In a complaint her relative said Seshamma, who is mentally ill, left the house on October 11 around 5 p.m. and did not return. She had run away from home on two earlier occasions, the relative said.
Police moves court
M.B. Boralingaiah, Superintendent of Police, said on Monday the police had moved court here for body warrants to bring undertrial Nagaraj Balegar, alias Nagaraj Shetty, and his wife Lakshmi, who were arrested by the Goa police in connection with a burglary case in Saleigao in North Goa on October 10 here in Udupi.
Two policemen from Kerala had brought Nagaraj in a train from Thrissur to Udupi at 12.30 a.m. on August 28. Nagaraj was to be produced before a court here on August 28 in connection with a house breaking and a theft.
But Nagaraj had called his wife Lakshmi from the mobile telephone numbers of one of the two Kerala policemen and had got two rooms booked at a lodge in Ontibettu village, about 12 km from Udupi.
While the two policemen stayed in one room of the lodge, Nagaraj and Lakshmi stayed in another room.
When the policemen from Kerala searched for Nagaraj in the morning, they found he had escaped.
Mr. Boralingaiah said Nagaraj was in judicial custody in Goa.
“We have initiated the process for seeking body warrant to secure the custody of Nagaraj and Lakshmi for the investigation of his (Nagaraj’s) escape from police custody on August 28. Lakshmi had helped him in his escape.
"Hence, we have sought body warrant for her also,” he said.
Corruption charges
Joseph Suvaris, Secretary of the Orthodox Syrian Catholic Educational Society (OSCES), on Monday denied charges of financial irregularities against him and against the Governing Council of the society, made by the former Secretary of the society Thomas D’Souza.
Mr. D’Souza had during a dharna in Brahmavar on October 11, also charged the Governing Council of being behind the move to demote and transfer the Vicar General of the Brahmavar Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Rev.
