‘There will not be any increase in the property tax and the water charges’
The Congress will stand by its promise of not increasing property tax and also the water tariff during its five-year term at the helm of the Mangalore City Corporation council, said senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary, who was also the party’s in-charge for elections to the Mangalore Corporation Council.
Mr. Poojary told presspersons here on Monday that people had high hopes about promises made in the manifesto translating into action. “We will reassure people of the city that there will not be any increase in the property tax and the water tariff,” he said.
The councillors from the party will be asked to take a vow in this regard. Asked how the corporation will generate revenue in the absence of rise in the tax, Mr. Poojary said, “We have shown it during our earlier rule. We will go for better tax collection, provide corruption free administration,” Mr. Poojary said.
He attributed party’s victory to the hard work put in by the legislators and party workers.
Mr. Poojary said the party won in the MCC and other civic bodies across the district, except in Sullia Town Panchayat, partly because of people’s disenchantment with the BJP regime and its corrupt practices.
