Two more boards showing autorickshaw fare from Mangaluru Central Railway Station to different areas in the city will come up at the prepaid autorickshaw counter at the railway station. Two persons will be at the counter to run it.

These were among the changes that Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar proposed during his visit to the prepaid autorickshaw counter on Saturday. Following complaints about overcharging by autorickshaw drivers and lack of proper operation of the prepaid counter, the city police recently took steps to streamline the operations. Police installed a board showing the fare chart and also put up a compliant box to report of instances of overcharging and other misdeeds of autorickshaw drivers. The operator of the counter was asked to wear a reflective jacket. Mr. Sekhar on Saturday visited the counter to have a look at the arrangements.

Mr. Sekhar asked the prepaid autorickshaw counter operator to take assistance of one more person for issuance of receipts for autorickshaw commuters. He said two more boards need to be installed at the booth to make it convenient for commuters to check the fare.

Mr. Sekhar asked the In-charge Senior Regional Transport Officer G.S. Hegde to install simputer at the counter that will help in issuing proper receipts to the commuters. Use of simputer will also help police in monitoring operations of autorickshaws and give a better account of people’s patronage of the facility. Mr. Sekhar said two police constables will be at the counter between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Police patrolling vehicles will be visiting the station once every two hours. There will be a police vigil at 3 a.m. when a train leaves the Mangaluru Central Railway Station, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) M. Sanjeev Patil accompanied Mr. Sekhar during the visit.
