Artists of the the Manipal Sand Heart Team and the Artists' Forum created a clay sculpture to create awareness about a healthy heart to mark the World Heart Day at the KMC Greens here on Sunday.

Students from institutions affiliated to Manipal University came to see the sculpture which showed the mascot of Commonwealth Games “Sheru” holding a heart that was weeping. A dinosaur carved nearby was indicative of bad habits. Beneath the sculpture was a banner that read “Protect me from bad habits”.

Small placards were kept around the sculpture urging the people to give up bad habits and follow a healthy life-style to keep themselves away from heart-related diseases. The sculpture also carried a message of national unity.

Artists Srinath Manipal, Venki Palimar and Ravi Hirebettu had created the sculpture.

The Voluntary Organisation Committee of Manipal University and Syndicate Bank supported the programme.

Mr. Manipal, leader of the team, said, “Our aim is to create awareness among people to give up their sedentary life-style and practice simple exercises such as daily walk so that they can have a healthy heart”.
