To mark ‘Vijay Diwas’, former officers and ex-servicemen from the defence forces, police officers, and their family members, offered tributes in remembrance of the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation in the India-Pakistan war of 1971, in the city on Sunday. The remembrance was held at War Memorial in Kadri Hills.
Nitteguthu Sharath Bhandary, President, Dakshina Kannada District Ex-servicemen Association, told presspersons that of those who had laid down their lives in the war, four were given Param Vir Chakras.
They were: Lance Naik Albert Ekka from 14 Guards, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal from 14 Horse, Flying Officer Nirmal Singh Sekhon from 18th Squadron, Indian Air Force and Major Hoshiar Singh from 3 Grenadiers. Of the four, the first three got the recognition posthumously.
