After Bengaluru, now Mangaluru and Ullal too have bike ambulances. They have facilities to immediately attend to persons injured in road accidents.
Two motorcycles, each driven by a trained paramedical staff, will be available in the city and in Ullal.
While in the city it will be stationed at a location suggested by the agency running the 108 ambulances, the other one will be at a place off the Mangaluru - Kasaragod National Highway.
Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, who launched the service, said the government procured 32 bike ambulances.
While 20 are being used in Bengaluru, the remaining will be placed in six municipal corporations. Two are being given to the each of the six municipal corporations.
Mr. Khader said there has been a good response to the initiative, which was launched in Bengaluru on April 15.
“The response time has been between three and eight minutes.” Mr. Khader said.
