The Criminal Investigation Department officers headed by Superintendent of Police Siri Gowri left Mangalore on Tuesday night following their investigation into the rape and murder of 17-year-old girl in Ujire last year.
The visit followed a statement by Director General of Police (CID) Bipin Gopala Krishna that the police will submit a report regarding the incident in 15 days. The girl’s family demanded for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry as the CID had failed to take action against the suspects.
Ms. Gowri and her team questioned the girl’s mother and father. The team also questioned police inspector Yogish Kumar, who was the previous investigation officer. The girl’s parents have accused Mr. Kumar of creating evidence to shield real persons involved in the case.
Two found dead
Two elderly persons drowned in lakes in separate incidents on Tuesday. Honnayya Poojary (80) was found dead in a lake in Parimogaru village in Bantwal Rural police station limits. The police said he left the house on Monday evening. In another incident, Dejamma (80), who left her house in Balinje village on October 11, was found in a lake in the village on October 14.
Missing
A 17-year-old student of Alvas College was missing from his hostel since Monday evening. The police said Karthik, a native of Magadi Road in Bangalore, did not return to Kodachadi Hostel after he left at 5 p.m. A complaint was filed by Raghavendra Prabhu, the warden.
Accident death
Yellappa (55) on Tuesday succumbed to injury he sustained following an accident that occurred near Kuntikana junction on August 3. The Mangalore Traffic (East) police said Yellappa fell off his motorcycle after it was hit by a mini lorry. He was taken to a private hospital nearby and then to the Government Wenlock Hospital, where he died.
