Child labourer rescued

Labour Department officials rescued a child labourer from Sri Devi Canteen on K.S. Rao Road here on Wednesday.

The boy was working as a cleaner in the canteen, owned by Prakash A. alias Dharnappa Gowda, a press release from the Department of Information said.

The boy, said to be aged below 14, was produced before the Child Welfare Committee. A case has been registered against Prakash.

The raid was conducted as part of the initiative to free Dakshina Kannada of child labour by August 15.

If anyone comes across a child labourer, they can contact the authorities by dialling 2433131 or 2437479, the release said.
