‘Centre trying to hand over Mangalore port to private firm’

May 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:49 am IST - MANGALURU:

Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology B. Ramanath Rai said on Saturday that the Union government was attempting to hand over the operations of the New Mangalore Port to a private company.

Addressing the media, the Minister said that the Union government was making efforts to hand over the port to Adani Ports. However, he refused to elaborate on it.

U-turn government

Alleging that the NDA government led by Narendra Modi was a “U-turn” government, he said that it had not fulfilled its promise to bring back black money stashed abroad, and it appeared as if the NDA made the promise to lure votes.

Mr. Rai said the NDA leaders had criticised Aadhaar scheme before the elections, but was promoting it now, which was a clear indication of a U-turn.
