November 06, 2011 12:48 pm | Updated 12:48 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will be investigating the death of a priest in Belthangady taluk in 2009.

Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram told The Hindu that the case pertained to the death of Fr. Joseph Mugalel, parish priest of St. Mary's Church in Kutrupady of Belthangady taluk.

The priest's body was found outside the house of one Joseph of Kuntadi on July 30, 2009.

Although the police investigation found it to be a natural death, the relatives of the deceased took the case to the High Court and demanded that it be handed over to the CBI.

Mr. Ram said that a CBI officer was in the city and that the investigating officer of the case had contacted the district police around two weeks ago.

All the files and documents sought by the latter had been handed over.
